Well there it is; i guess i should have seen it coming.  I'm at least hoping the letters i wrote accounted for something, but obviously not.  The climate killing Hazelwood power station has been approved to be expanded to at least 2030.  That will mean 445 million tonnes of greenhouse pollution - that's an extra 105 million cars on the road for a year.  This is an environmental tragedy.  We're already feeling the heat from climate change and Premier Bracks has now crossed the line to speed the process up.  Hey why not?  There will now be 43 million tonnes of new coal which will pollute for another 25 years.  The other issue is that the technology is old.  Hazelwood is already the the most coal-fire polluting station in the western world.  Brown coal is the dirtiest of them all.  Now it's up to green groups to take legal action.  It's not easy because there's still not a lot of support - yeah i'm talking to you bloggers who ignored my previous warning.  Every individual can make a difference.  People think that global warming is an environmental problem and take no responsibility for it.  It's too hard, too big, too intangible - and people don't know where to start.  Start by either joining the Wilderness Society, Australian Conservation Foundation, Environment Victoria, Friends of the Earth, Greenpeace.  Make donations - tax deductible bear in mind - and help community groups plant trees.  Be wise with how you use energy.  Victorians are extremely greedy when it comes to energy use, thus why the expansion is going ahead.  Every bit of electricity you use is feeding Hazelwood.  The locals of Moreland and Traralgon are coming down with chest infections, eye problems, skin problems because of the smoke.
